Generation Church Development held a useful 24 hour gathering of revitalisers in Aviemore last week.
We have initiated a training track involving 11 ministers and their congregations. Generation wants to see health in all our congregations and this training initiative is one of many to help our denomination play its part in kingdom growth.
The first cohort received introductory coaching from ministers who all have experience in revitalisation. David Meredith (Mission Director) spoke on principles of revitalisation, looking at the signs of ill-health in a church then suggesting some cures. Derek Lamont (St Columba’s, Edinburgh) spoke of the need for organisation under the provocative title, ‘Why herding cats is spiritual.’ Ivor MacDonald (Coatbridge) who has experience of both rural and urban ministries spoke of lessons learned in these contexts over 25 years. Angus MacRae (Dingwall) led a discussion on overcoming difficulties through a candid overview of his own experience.
It was a rich time together, those involved spoke of a sense of being a ‘band of brothers’ at the end of the event. There was laughter, there were some tears but there was a sense of hope as we prayed together that God would help us see life in the valley of dry bones and ‘strengthen what remains.’
