The beginning of September sees the starting up of the 2019/20 academic year at Edinburgh Theological Seminary.
ETS is a key partner of Generation, providing for theological training for church workers as well giving study opportunities to local church members across Scotland and beyond. ETS has provided training for many who are now serving across the Generation network in both Church Plants and Church Developments. ETS graduates are working with us from Haddington to the Highlands, from St Andrews to South Uist. This year we are excited to see new and returning students come to ETS to be equipped for mission work.
One of the core training course at ETS is the Bachelor of Theology degree, and this year there has been one of the highest ever intakes of new students. The BTh takes students through the main areas of theological study while at the same time seeking to continually apply the truths of the gospel to real life ministry settings. ETS also provides great study opportunities for local churches. Included in this is the Saturday Course which begins later in September. This course has helped equip men and women across local churches, giving people greater knowledge of God’s truth as they seek to reach out with the gospel and to disciple other believers. For local churches wanting to tap into theological training, there is also the Access to Theology course. This meets once a week on a Tuesday evening and, like the Saturday Course and the BTh, can be studied online. The Access Course gives a great introduction to studying theology, and it works well as both a stand alone course and as a gateway to further study.
ETS is also closely connected to Generation’s Global Mission work. Generation supports ETS graduates working as far away as Nepal and this year it has been a huge encouragement to welcome students from overseas come to begin training for gospel work at ETS. Over the last 5 years, ETS has welcomed students from every continent and it is a key resource through which Generation can help support and train people in Global Mission.
Part of why Generation exists is to help raise up a new Generation of leaders and workers who will support existing churches, plant new ones, and engage in cross cultural mission both at home and abroad. For that to happen, it is essential that people are well trained. For that reason, we are immensely grateful for our partnership with ETS and we ask that you would keep praying for the staff and students there as a new year of study begins.
